When in Sonoma

There are few Bay Area activities I enjoy more than a visit to the wine country. Especially when I have the opportunity to wear this chic hat. This particular trip to Sonoma was to look for wedding venues for a close friend, and we visited Nicholson Ranch, Viansa Winery, and Cornerstone Gardens. All of which, I would recommend for their charm and beautiful scenery (not to mention the perfect photo opps!).

I've never been the hat-wearing type, so finding one that a) fits my larger than average head, and b) I feel comfortable in is a find for me. Since then, I've been more open to incorporating hats into my wardrobe and challenging my personal style comfort zone. This is one of the many reasons why I love being a fashion blogger :).

Thanks for reading!

Straight Talk

Yep, let's get real, folks. I want to write a candid post about the struggles of being a full-time working mom who's pregnant and trying to keep up with her blog.

Sometimes I worry that if I talk too much about parenting or pregnancy I'll ostracize or alienate some of our readers. Because, if I'm being truthful, prior to being pregnant and having a kid, I probably would have been about as enthusiastic about reading a pregnancy post as I would have been about reading a medical journal entry about oh, let's say, tonsil removal. But, at the same time, by not talking about my struggles as a full-time working mom trying to find success as a blogger, I'm not being real.

I put all kinds of absurd pressure on myself to excel at work, to be a good wife, to be a nurturing and patient mom, to stay fit, to cook healthy dinners, to make time for my girlfriends, and of course, to produce quality blog content. There is a lot of juggling and prioritizing, and blogging usually gets relegated to the bottom of the list, not because I don't love it, but because I feel that it's more important to spend time with my family when I can. I try to only blog after Sylvie's gone to bed or when she's napping on the weekends. Which, as any parent can attest to, is really, really difficult. Because nap time is usually time to catch up on life, pay bills, do dishes, or HEEEEEY! maybe even to spend some quality time with one's partner.

I try really hard to keep things in perspective, and I'll readily admit that I'm not always successful. But when I feel despondent about not having enough time in life, I try to remember that I'm lucky to have time to blog at all, and I'm really lucky to have a great, supportive blog partner.

On a lighter note, thanks to all of our readers for all of your support over the last few months!

Oh, and one last thing: these amazing booties are on sale. You're welcome.

The Real Teal

I ordered this bright number from Rent the Runway for my recent Mexico trip, and it was just perfect. I love Rent the Runway because they send you two sizes, and offer affordable options for a special event.

Since the dress was the main event, I wanted to wear neutral shoes and accessories, so I found some comparable options above if you're looking to pair with a bright dress. This dress was so comfortable, I wish I could have kept it!

Day & Night (uh uh)

Kid Cudi, anyone? NO?

I wanted to put together a day-to-night look for this maternity outfit. All it took was switching up my bags, shoes, and jackets--EASY! It really is amazing how a nice pair of heels and a classic blazer can transform a look. Being able to rummage through a good friend's closet to grab shoes & accessories didn't hurt, either! I'm telling you, it's so wonderful to have friends who have amazing taste and who conveniently wear the same shoe size as you do! Both of the shoes featured in this post were borrowed, as well as the HOT RED Gucci bag, which just serves to make my lips pop! Viola!

The "night shoes" are Isabel Marant for H & M, which are sadly no longer available, so I wasn't able to add a link below (although I did link to a seriously amazing pair of black and similar heels). Something to cheer you up, however: the leopard flats are on a HUGE sale right now!

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend so far! I got a 5:30 am wakeup call from the cutest curly-headed alarm clock around, so I figured I may as well get up and finish this blog post. I see a nap in my future...
